Church Street Residence
Toorak, Victoria
An elegant yet robust home for a young family with a passion for design and travel, Church Street residence takes its cues from archetypal Roman forms. Art and furnishings add zest, warmth and richness.
Arches were introduced strategically throughout the floor plan to contain elegant spatial volumes and create vistas, as well as ordering the ‘flow’ within the dwelling. The arches express mass with the use of deep wall reveals, linking spaces and framing rooms with elegant steel framed glazed doors for privacy.
Warm chevron oak floors complement the archways to create a quiet and controlled backdrop for the ‘theatre of life’ and a considered curatorial approach for interior furnishings. Handcrafted Murano chandeliers resonate comfortably with contemporary furnishings, and coveted art and accessories collected over time from the clients’ many travels abroad, from bazaars to vintage stores across Europe and America.
The composition of interior finishes balance the warmth of oak with natural stone including arabescato in the kitchen and living areas, and silver travertine in the bathroom areas. Brushed brass trims act a foil to this natural palette. Detailing is purposely restrained to allow the beauty of the materials to act as the protagonist.
